Sergeant Major Martinez joined the Marines at age 23 in 1996, after successfully completing Marine Corps Recruit Training in San Diego, California. She served on Tinian Island, Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands as an interface control technician aboard USS Colorado (a guided missile destroyer), then later served as manpower management officer on board USS Norman Scott (light cruiser). Martinez earned the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Navy Achievement Medal and several service ribbons during this service time – earning both Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Navy Achievement Medal & Navy Achievement Medal.In June 2010 she joined Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 242 where she currently serves as Maintenance Material Control Officer (VMFA-AW-242).She graduated Marine Combat Developments School and Marine Aircraft Systems Technology Course courses before serving her tour duty.
